In 1904 Booth & Flinn completed the streetcar tunnel from what is now Station Square through to the South Hills. That scene is in with our 50th Reunion Class of 1951 photos in the gallery. In 1909 the trolley car system was electrified and there were several branches from the tunnel out to the South Hills and nearby became known as South Hills Junction. This picture was taken round 1917. Before the fancier red and white streetcars, one of which is in the Heinz Western Pennsylvania Museum, you may recall the orange klunkers like I do. I recall some of them had wicker seats that seem to reach into my back with splintery pieces and I think some had floors titling toward the middle of the car? I once heard that Pittsburgh had more trolley cars than any other U.S. city and when they switched to buses many of our trollies ended up in Yugoslavia or Budapest. What's your recollection?/s/jack
